The Limits to Self-Organization in Biological Systems:
The Biology Bulletin has a bunch of articles devoted to this topic. They
look very interesting. They can be accessed through the Carleton Library

Making Body Casts
May and I recently tried to make a cast of Noah’s hand. Noah was
completely awesome during our attempt, and we did everything to the letter,
but apparently the creators of the kit had built some ‘error time’ into
their precisely timed instructions and so the whole thing didn’t work.
Searching for cheaper alternatives, I found this informative site: Special Effects Supply- Life Casting

Signals and Cues in Child Learning
I’m trying to make some kind of reasonable distinction between signals and
cues, even though I’m not sure if it is, in fact, a useful distinction. My
search on google for “cues signals” turned up this unanticipated page on
using cues and signals in child learning:

Ski Waxing
This person has a very comprehensive site on how to deal with
all things ski wax related. Apparently the technical term for all
of this stuff is ‘ski tuning’. As in- I can’t go skiing yet- I haven’t
tuned my skis.

Cross Country Skiing has Begun!
Haha! The Gatineau ski season has officially begun:
Gatineau Ski Conditions
As of Sunday morning they had 15 centimeters of wet snow and fair conditions. I felt sure the rain last night would have finished them off, but no- 15% of the network is still open, with 5cm of snow and poor conditions. Yay!
And the
weather forecast is calling for cold conditions and more snow. Bring
it on!
